How to connect Google Tag Manager to your Shopable store

Learn how to quickly add Google Tag Manager to your Shopable store to manage analytics and advertising tags from one place.

Updated over a week ago

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tool for centralized tracking code management – you can configure Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or other tags without editing store code. In Shopable, connect GTM using the built-in plugin in the Analytics section.

Prerequisites

To configure GTM, you need:

  • a Google account and a GTM container created for your domain (Web type),

  • the GTM container ID in the format "GTM-XXXXXXXXXX".

If you don't have a container yet, create it in the GTM panel, copy the ID, and return to Shopable.

Step 1: Open the Analytics section in Shopable

  1. Log in to your Shopable admin panel.

  2. In the side menu, go to "Settings", then open the "Analytics" tab.

  3. In the list of available plugins, find "Google Tag Manager" and turn the toggle on.

After enabling it, you will see a field where you need to paste the GTM container ID.

Step 2: Find your GTM container ID

The container ID is a unique code in the format "GTM-XXXXXXXXXX" found in the GTM panel.

How to find it:

  1. Log in to Google Tag Manager and open your container.

  2. In the top-right corner of the screen (next to "Submit" and "Preview" buttons), you'll see the container ID starting with "GTM-".

  3. You can also click the ID to view the installation code – the ID is visible there.

  4. Copy the ID to your clipboard.

Step 3: Paste the GTM ID in Shopable

  1. Go back to the Shopable admin panel, to "Settings → Analytics → Google Tag Manager".

  2. Paste the copied ID (e.g. GTM-XXXXXXX) into the "Google Tag Manager ID" field.

  3. Click "Save" to activate the integration.

From now on, GTM code will load on your store pages, and you can manage tags directly in the GTM panel.

Common issues

GTM is not loading on the page
Check that you pasted the correct container ID (exactly "GTM-XXXXXXXXXX") and that the plugin is enabled. Use GTM Preview mode to test live.

I have multiple containers and don't know which to use
Choose the "Web" type container assigned to your store's domain. Avoid mobile app containers.
